Spring Emerging, oil on canvas, 48 x 36 inches
Exhibiting: Renjeau Gallery, Natick, MA
Framed $10,500
This large-scale oil began as a line of trees in shades of blue with a pale sky and foreground. My focus was to create a complex forest wall with a minimum of slender trees emerging into the light.
I spent a couple of months on it, maneuvering and shading various elements while keeping to the overarching idea of a large work with elegance and tranquility. I was well into this work and what was emerging was something that had the look of an evening snow scene with a light sky and partial meadow.
It was a palette of blues and light hues, delicately balanced, and where the slightest addition could change the painting dramatically and as it turned out, when I added just a hint of yellow to the sky to see what would happen, everything shifted.
It was like watching the seasons change as I added more yellow and then additional green, aqua and pink tones, but not too much, and when the painting was completed it titled itself, Spring Emerging.
