Oil on canvas, 36 x 60 inches

Exhibiting:  Saks Galleries, Denver

$8500 framed

As it often happens, this was an oil that was very slow to evolve. It was started last summer as a very autumn, orange and brown scene and slowly became this array of greens with those notes of yellow and orange.

All of the colors are pushed for more drama and come to think of it, this was as if I was directing a number of worthy actors, all jostling for more stage time!

In many cases, if there was a change in a color then it required adjustments in a number of other places, particularly if a passage was made brighter. That is when I began to realize that this entire painting had steadily shifted to being about green, abundant greens of different hues and full of life.

With that focus in mind, I pushed the greens and used every other element of the painting to begin supporting and enhancing that theme, but it still proceeded slowly.

The finished oil began to really come together about 2 months ago, but it still required hours of tweaking until finally, I made a final run at the water. At last, it was done until I saw it the next day.

Something was missing…the cure was more interest in the water and the answer came with the addition of pink with blushes of light purple.

Now it sings everywhere.
